It's been a while. And busy.
Updates:
Sam is 27, living with his wonderful girlfriend Madeline nearby in Waltham. He worked for 5 years in Boston but now is much happier working remotely for an Oregon-based robotics company. He still runs and plays frisbee, but had to take last year off due to a torn ACL. He has turned into such a wonderful young man.
Micah is about to turn 25, living with his sweet partner Sarah down in Arlington, VA. Sarah is finishingup law school there. Micah works (currently part time) fully remote for the National Down Syndrome Congress, as the Policy and Advocacy Associate. He is amazingly dedicated to changing the world for people with disabilities. He also plays frisbee, and drives back and forth from DC to Mass often enough for us to see him but not often enough to get tired of seeing him. Also an amazing emerging adult.
Miss Sofia is 21! She currenlty attends the Transition Program, LAUNCH, at the Ashland public school; we started the program when she graduated high school. She turns 22 this coming February, and has all sorts of plans for her future: she wants to live in a penthouse tower apartment in New York City (like the K-Pop Demon Hunters). She wants to work at: Starbucks, a hospital, a doctor's office, a grocery store, a restaurant, and a store. She currently does Adaptive Dance, and in Spring she is on the Milford Special Olympics Swim Team, having been on the high school swim team all 4 years. She has social groups and lots of activities to keep her busy, but prefers to sit on the porch watching her videos and being "not bothered" (i.e. left alone).
David dropped down and is no longer President of MEDIcept, just the Founder. He cut his hours to 50% but forgot to take into account that he was working 70 hours... He's still busy, but a little less stressed about it all.
And me? Well, my beloved MetroWest Jewish Day School (MWJDS) closed this past spring. We just could not sustain; we only had 14 students this past year. Post October 7 has been really tough on the Jewish community.
However, the closing of the school came at a perfect time for me. I have this entire autumn and winter to devote to figuring out Sofia's next steps. I'm currently touring CBDS programs (Community Based Day Services) to see where she will fit, and looking for job opportunities for her as well as myself. I just helped a student celebrate her bat mitzvah this past weekend, and I have another student who is starting from scratch but wants a bar mitzvah. I'm still happily creating content for him!
I started crocheting a few years ago, and now I'm obsessed. I recently had a run of bucket hats, which I'm trying to sell on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/2Pirates1Princess2). I also make baby blankets and "lovey" dolls to match. When asked who for, I say "stockpiling". Either I'll get a table at a craft fair, or one day I'll have a grandchild of my own to spoil.
I joined the Jewish Joy Network, and am trying to figure out how to talk about myself in an organized manner. It's difficult!
